Your Life-A A +A

(We had a Toastmasters joint meeting last October 15. I was asked to be one of the four speakers. I share my speech.)
Are you happy with your life?
If you are not happy with it, change it. If you are in the wrong path, go back and start again, better still make your own road. If something makes you smile, do it more; if it makes you miserable do it less. If you like bulad, find the best vinegar. Life is simple, do not analyze it. Not everything in life has answers. Sometimes the questions are the answers. The greatest leap of faith is the first small step. It is also the hardest.
Take a vacation even if you cannot afford it. Go to Africa or Bohol. Just go. And when you leave, do not think of how much the vacation is. If you are calculating the cost, better stay at home. Learn a new language. Entiendes? Smile. Smile even if there is no reason to. Your enemies will wonder and the angels will dance. Do not fear the darkness for in it you will find your light. The most important things in life are not things really. They are people, yes the husband whom you screamed at, your children who give you hypertension, your friends who irritate you and yes that fellow Toastmaster who makes you scratch your head. And talking about Toastmasters...
For Toastmasters, do that overdue project. Dare to be the Jokemaster even if you are not funny. If they laugh, good. If they do not, well you tried. Join a contest. If you win, good, if you lose bad. But who is to say what is bad or good. Only you. Visit a different club, deliver your speech, better still visit Noontime and get evaluated by me. If you pass, good. If not, welcome to Noontime.
There is no garbage in your life. There are no wasted or useless moments. Everything has a reason and a purpose. Your boring job, the betrayal, the unfulfilled dream, the injustice, the broken heart, all add up for a reason in its season. Something will string things together and one day, someday, it will come together. Hold on. In the meantime, eat a cupcake. Be honest. Everything can be justified, just look at the one million SSS bonus.
Do something you have never done before. Bunjee jump, finish candy crush, stop candy crush, fly a kite. Better still be the kite. Soar above the clouds and have a new outlook on life. Fly.
Embrace life. Marvel at the grace of a butterfly, be awed at the endless sky touching the distant blue line of an ageless sea. Get lost in the rapture of a child at play. Listen to the sad notes of a sonata or watch the whirling dance of a dragon fly. Gaze at the face of a new born baby. Cry in the truth of a poet who has torched your heart. Dance to the Beatles, Bee Gees or Beyonce. Or dance the boogie!
Eat chicharon once in a while. Eat lechon every other month. Eat chicken skin once a year. Drink red wine.
Cry. Feel your tears and your humanity. Touch your innermost self that cannot be moved. There is stillness in you that is invincible. Do not be loud, be quiet. Stillness is depth. Most loud people have nothing to say. Silence reveals answers and noise hides the truth. Your inner voice cannot be heard if you keep on yakking. Ssshhhh. And then...
Laugh. Laugh at corny jokes, laugh when you fall and fail, laugh when you are asked to repeat a speech project. And yes laugh when someone rejects you because they fail to see the beauty of you. How you perceive is how you will live. What is your favorite song? Sing it even if you are out of tune. Sing in the shower as long as it is your shower. Your soul cannot be constricted or denied. True wealth is your authentic self.
Stop comparing yourself with others. There can only be one you and like Walt Whitman wrote shout your barbaric yawp in the rooftops of the world. Stop denying the world of you. If people talk at your back, be grateful, you are famous. If people malign you, it is their problem not yours. What people do and say of you is not a reflection of you but of them. There is a reason why they are violent and vicious. They are weak and afraid. Only the gentle and the kind are strong and valiant. Forgive. Only the blessed can do that. God touches us in so many ways.
Our sorrows and celebrations, our losses and victories are one and the same. Rejoice in the simplicity of an embrace or the unexpected act of grace. Treasure the loves of your life. The seeming drudgery of our lives, the gray expanses and landscapes, the dark canyons can explode in a carnival of colors if we reach out to the very core of life. Love. We are here for one another.
Live. Be happy. And yes do not forget the chicharon.
