BRINGING in new flavors for wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs, the Swiss Deli and Restaurant has added another collection to their wine cellar for Dabawenyos to savor on.

The Swiss Deli and Restaurant Lanang Branch, through its wine provider Säntis Delicatessen, brought in 13 new flavors of wines coming from various wine producers across the globe including six varieties of red wine, six unique white wines and a sparkling wine.

Me and Edward attended the wine-tasting at the restaurant's cellar and we were in for a treat as we got the chance to taste all of them.

We kicked off with the white wine and started off with the Mystery Hill Semillon from Australia. It is a Sauvignon Blanc with a vibrant yellow color, a fresh and flavorful aroma and a tangy taste from the lemon citrus and semillon. The Wild Rock Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, meanwhile, offered almost the same aroma and taste but it had a more distinct and balanced finish.

Farnese Trebbiano, a Sauvignon Blanc from the cellars of Italy, has a bright yellow color, a strong fruity aroma with a little bit of flowery scent. It has a balanced taste but has a more persistent finish. Dulong Bordeaux Sauvignon from France has a light yellow color with green highlights, a floral and fruity fragrance while it tickles the palates with a fruity flavor from the white peach and mandarin peel. Brampton Unoaked Chardonnay, meanwhile, had a golden color with a fruity fragrance and the contrasting tastes of peach, melon and citrus which blends in for a balanced finish.

After tasting the set of white wines, it was on to the red wine. We first tasted the Brampton Rose from South Africa. It has a pink color with a strong strawberry aroma with tinges of mulberry while the taste has a natural acidity and a strong finish.

The Gestos Shiraz from Argentina has a red violet color with an aroma from mixed berries and red fruits. The taste is perfect for everyday drinking as it has a refreshing finish and a dry and crisp acidity to the palates. Farnese Montepulciano from Italy has a fiery ruby color, an intense aroma and a full-bodied taste and persistent finish.

Rib Shack Red Pinotage Shiraz from South Africa has a red color with a savory smoky aroma from oak spice and a strong scent from mixed berries.

It’s taste and texture is exceptional due to its full-bodied berry flavors. The Moore's Creek Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia had the same characteristic with the Rib Shack yet it provides more acidity.
The Root 1 Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, on the other hand, was perhaps one of the most unique flavors as it has hints of black currant, mocha and chocolate while the Dulong Bordeaux Merlot Cabernet from France had the color same that of the Moore's Creek but has a smoother finish due to some touches of ginger bread, caramel and black pepper. We then finished off the wine-tasting with the Flichman Extra Brut Sparkling.

Our personal favorites for the red wine would be the Root 1 Cabernet Sauvignon and the Rib Shack as it was a perfect complement to the sausages and cheese cocktail service of the restaurant. The Dulong Bordeaux Sauvignon would be our top pick for the white wine as it offered the smoothest finish from all the white wine. But preference varies from person to person, thus the new selection of wines would offer a wider variety for Dabawenyos to choose from.

Säntis Delicatessen CEO Werner Berger, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said: "Basically these (wines) are new flavors that will surely capture the palates of wine enthusiasts. Even those who occasionally drink wine can even appreciate them or better yet, enjoy them."

The wine-tasting got us a little tipsy but in the end, our palates basically took a trip around the world through the new selections of wine at the Swiss Deli and Restaurant.
