The Frozen Phenomenon

-A A +A

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

WALT Disney Animation Studio's Frozen is considered as one of the best animated films that have ever been produced. People are saying that after two decades Disney has finally got back on its feet, producing once again magical films. Also, when you say Disney, each film always comes with catchy soundtracks.

As to the case of Frozen, "Let it Go" and "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?" have become a hit. If you scroll through Youtube, you will dozen of parodies and covers of both songs. Here are my favorites:

1. Korean man's lip synching parody to Let it Go

This is the most hilarious parody of Let it Go. The props, gestures, and expressions are right on the mark. The best part is how they played around with the snow effects and how abrupt the actor changed his clothes in an instant. It has already 2.2 million hits.

2. Let it Go by Christina Bianco

Now this is amazing. Christina sings Elsa's signature music while impersonating Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Kristin Chenoweth, Julie Andrews, and other famous divas. My favorite impersonation was those of Julie Andrews and Kristin Chenoweth. The video has 3.9 million views.

3. Let it Go and Vivaldi's Winter mashup by The Piano Guys

Just to give you the stats, the video has been viewed over 12.4 million times. The talent of the musicians, the extremely surreal and amazing set, and the arrangement of the two songs are just perfect.

4. The multi-language version of Let it Go

With more than 21 million views with different version in 25 languages, this video is a testament of how the world’s warm appreciation of the film, what more can I say?

5. Gusto ba ka Muhimo'g Suman? (A Bisaya parody of "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?")

To date, it has around 738,393 views. I'll let a portion of the lyrics speak for itself on why you should watch this parody:

Anna: Gusto ba ka muhimo'g suman?
Manguha ta'g lukay,
I never see you anymore, tawon pag-sure
di ko gusto'g away...
We're chocolatey buddies
and now were not,
tungod ba ni sa kabaw?
Pirti na akong tiyabaw,
Unsaon man nako ang kabaw?

Elsa: Itugway Anna

More are still there in Youtube, it only takes a little more digging to find them out. To help you narrow your search, you can check Buzzfeed's website where they also have a list of parodies and covers. So there you have it, knock yourself out with these parodies and covers of the two signature songs of Frozen.
