WHEN it comes to fashion, it’s really critical what types of designs or even colors to choose in order not to go out of style after just a few months.

I got the chance to talk to one of the young designers in Davao City who is now gaining grounds in the global trading arena because of her bag creations which truly embody what is “classic and timeless”.

The young and promising Davao City-based designer-entrepreneur Shiela Marie Damalerio shared with me some brilliant tips when it comes to fashion and why we should love her bags. Read on!

FN: What tips can you share with the budget-conscious fashionistas when it comes to choosing the appropriate bag for every occasion?

Sheila: I think the trick is to choose a classic and timeless piece that can go with almost all kinds of looks from day to night. If you are budget-conscious, I would suggest that you avoid purchasing items that are very trendy and are most likely to go out of style just after a few seasons.

FN: What made you decide to use bamboo as your raw material?

Shiela: Just the fact that bamboo is a very versatile sturdy material and we have an abundance of it here in Mindanao.

FN: What types of bags do you have right now?

Shiela: The bags I have right now are practical timeless ones. I have a duffel weekender, a crossbody messenger, a hobo, and of course, my own bamboo clutches.

FN: Since you mentioned about being budget-conscious, can you say that your products are budget-friendly?

Shiela: Absolutely! My products are very budget-friendly. I believe they are reasonably priced especially with our high quality.

FN: What makes your products different from the other ones, especially from the signature brands? What makes it competitive?

Shiela: My products are different because the materials are local and they are handcrafted locally. I believe there's no other company out there who uses the same technique that I use. In fact, I have a lot of industry-people telling me that I am possibly the first one to use the technique on clutches and succeeded with it. We also have the same international standards of quality but sold on a lower price.

FN: Why should we use your products?

Shiela: Well first of all, my products are locally-made so you are not only purchasing my items, you are also helping sustain a livelihood. Second, I am very particular when it comes to quality. My products are not only stylish and fancy but they are also very well constructed. And of course, my clutches are simply beautiful, if I do say so myself. Haha!
