TOUR guide group Guide Union for Inbound Destination and Ecotourism Inc. (Guide) Davao will be holding series of training courses its member tour guides this year in a bid to boost their skills and prepare them for the integration of Asean.

Gene Rose Tecson, Guide Davao president, said they have received a P2 million grant through the the Tourism Industry Skills Upgrading Program grant of the Department of Tourism (DOT), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) of the Government of Canada for the conduct of the trainings and seminars.

"The skills enhancement programs will help us improve the way we handle and tour the tourists. It will also help prepare our tour guides for the 2015 Asean integration," she said.

The training courses lined up by Guide Davao include: Personality Development and Quality Driven Communication for Service Excellence, Security and Safety Awareness and Emergency Response, Retraining of Tour Guides and Train the Trainers Program.

In a briefer, the trainings are designed "to build the confidence and add to the proficiency of both active and inactive tour guides as well as encourage them to seriously take up tour guiding as a profession."

Last May 19 to 21, Guide Davao conducted the training on Security and Safety Awareness and Emergency Response at the Pinnacle Hotel and Suites.

"The training equipped our tour guides on safety and security responses so that if there are situations which could endanger the group, the tour guide will be able to response properly," Tecson said.

Guide Davao is eyeing to improve its services and training programs to align with the standards of Asean Tourism and the standards of DOT With the DOT-ADB-Canada grant.
