Selera’s new list

-A A +A

BISTRO Selera, that Filipino restaurant at the second level of SM Lanang in front of the Fountain Court, is sprucing up its menu and so I get to s
taste their new offerings. Yum!

There were a lot of us, but there were more food. There was Marivi, Miggy, Bam, Bam’s wife, Melissa, Googie, Veron, and me… except that… aside from several dishes we have to try, we also have to try three lechon concoctions.
Bye-bye diet.

I will list the ones that passed my taste. On top of my list is the octopus and fennel salad. It was really good, and the only one I’ve ever tasted. Definitely one of its kind in this part of the town, despite the fact that we get a lot of octopuses. Second, the spicy clams. Then the baked bangus. This one was awesome and it’s low-salt too thus very good for us who pretend to be on a diet.

Then the seafood rice, which started a discussion going on why not just call it paella since it really looks like paella, but Marivi and Googie thinks it’s not appropriate since their recipe doesn’t have saffron in the rice. Whatever, just order it, it’s good, as the juices of the seafood toppings have all seeped into the rice. Once order can be shared by three to four, depends on tummy capacity.

Then came the three types of lechon rolls: the spicy herbed, the regular herbed, and the regular lechon with tanglad. I go for the spicy herbed lechon roll, although the regular herbed is also good except that I like it hot. For us, hot chili lovers, it’s not really that hot, but it can burn those who can’t handle red chili peppers.

You might also want to try the sinigang rice. It’s rice cooked in tamarind and topped with the veggies of sinigang that are battered and fried, and pork slices. It’s definitely a different take on the sinigang, but worth the try.

Highly recommended to try asap is the octopus and fennel salad and the bangus and be taken on a gustatory ride in unfamiliar but very welcome grounds. The seafood rice is still being perfected in time for Kadayawan. Then there are the restaurant’s best-sellers like the buffalo wings and the crispy pata. Just drop by and dig in.
