THIS year's World Food Expo (Wofex) Mindanao drew thousands of visitors who trooped to SMX Convention Center Davao to take their pick on various products that were showcased recently.

"Although I do not know the exact figures yet, I know that the number of visitors to the expo this year has exceeded last year's 8,000 mark, many of them came from various areas outside Davao City, some even came from as far as Bacolod City", WOFEX President Joel Pascual said.

The food expo also highlighted 2nd WOFEX University, a series of seminars where organizers brought in the country's experts in the food industry.
This was good news for the 82 exhibitors who came down to the city with their products in tow to promote them to the market in Mindanao.

"Basically, we participated in this food expo to promote, raise awareness, and introduce our product to prospective clients, and this event has indeed helped us to do so. Although our products are already known in Luzon, we are eyeing more investors from this region since the market isn't as saturated as Cebu or Manila," said Redge Jaudalso, of Equilibrium Intertrade Corporation.

The expo's exhibits ranged from food packaging, processing equipment and supplies, to delightful treats such as chocolates, powder candies, hotdogs, and other food products.

"It is our aim that WOFEX would not only help disseminate ideas and updates regarding the food industry in the country, but also facilitate good deals for the exhibitors. We aim for them to be able to dispose all the goods they have brought from Manila," WOFEX co-organizer Boydee Dizon said.

With a lot of visitors going to the expo, most of the booths that displayed machineries and supplies had already been tagged sold.

"We're definitely coming back to Davao with a bigger WOFEX next year," Pascual added.

"WOFEX is always a great opportunity for our company to expand its market, so we are most likely going to join next year's expo," said Divine Curangcurang, of Best Buy Food Service Equipment and Supplies.

Meanwhile, preparations are ongoing for WOFEX Trade and WOFEX Marketplace, both are slated from August 6-9 at the World Trade Center and SMX Convention Center in Manila, respectively. (Jeffer Joy R. Orteza - Addu Intern)
