Globe now accepting entries for Media Excellence Awards

THE Globe Davao Media Excellence Awards 2014 has announced that they are now accepting entries from local reporters and bloggers.

There are nine award categories this year for the print, broadcast, bloggers, and social media.

Award categories for the print media include the Reporter of the Year for Print, Explanatory/Investigative Story of the Year for Print or Online, Columnist of the Year, and Photojournalist of the Year. Categories for broadcast are Reporter of the Year for Radio, Reporter of the Year for Television, and Explanatory/Investigative Story of the Year for Television. Award category for bloggers and social media are Blogger of the Year and Social Advocate of the Year.

Criteria for the Explanatory/Investigative Story of the Year for Print or Broadcast is 50 percent content, 25 percent style, and 25 percent social impact. As for the other awards in mainstream media, the criteria is 50 percent content, 25 percent style, and 25 percent social impact. Criteria for bloggers is 50 percent for consistency of content on the advocacy, 20 percent reader friendly presentation and design content, and 30 percent social impact. Social media advocate criteria is 50 percent content, 20 percent reader engagement, and 30 percent social impact.

Winners of the Reporter of the Year for Print, Radio, and Broadcast and Explanatory/Investigative Story of the Year for Print or Online and Television will receive P20,000 and trophy while their editors will receive P5,000 and plaque. Columnist of the Year will receive P15,000 and trophy; Photojournalist of the Year will receive P10,000 and trophy; Blogger of the Year will receive P10,000 and trophy; and Social Advocate of the Year will receive P10,000 and trophy.

Entries for the awards will be categorized under categories of business and entrepreneurship, information and communications technology, environment and disaster response, peace and governance, and youth and education.

There are no separate awards for Cebuano and English writers.
Qualified to join the Globe Davao Media Excellence Awards 2014 are journalists working for print, broadcast, and television outlets from October 2013 to August 2014. News outlets, social media accounts, and news programs in existence within the same period shall be qualified for the appropriate awards.

The search period will be from October 2013 to August 2014 and the deadline for submission of entries is on August 26, 2014. The announcement of nominees will be on November 20, 2014 while the winners will be announced and awarded on November 27, 2014.
