ATENEO de Davao University (AdDU) in partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)-Davao Chapter will be holding a bloodletting activity on Thursday.

Speaking during the Kapehan sa Dabaw press conference last Monday at SM City Davao Annex, Ateneo de Davao Grade School Community Association president Tessie Maranon said the university is conducting the activity to augment the Department of Health (DOH)'s declining blood supply, in line with the university's celebration of the feast day of St. Ignatius de Loyola.

Citing DOH statistics, Maranon said dengue cases in the first quarter of 2014 reached 1,015, of them 688 or 68% were from Davao City.

The morning session of the activity will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at AdDU Jacinto Campus, while the afternoon session will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the AdDU Matina Campus. The activity is open to all.

Maranon, together with AdDU Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) president Heidi Maspinas, said the activity is based on the Ignatian value "Men and women for others" that the university lives up to.

They expect that there will be more participants in this year's activity, as they have invited other schools such as the University of Mindanao and St. Francis Xavier Seminary, among others. At least 150 donors were recorded in the same activity last year. (Jessa Mariestela P. Putong, AdDU Media Partner)
