“THE idea of this project started as a craving for some coconut juice. And then we realized there is more to coconut than just the juice. One pitched why not have a coconut exhibit for Araw ng Davao? Then the idea grew bigger and as they say, the rest is history”, this was how Felcris Centrale Marketing Officer Jolen Crame and his team came up with the idea of holding a coconut exhibit recently.

Together with the Philippine Coconut Authority the first coconut festival was born, they organized a trade fair, product demos, symposium, variety Show, cooking demo, flair tending competition, beat box showdown, acoustic sessions, drum beaters and beta competition.

The Coconut Festival was a five-day event which opened last March 16 and culminated last March 20.

There are variety of coconut products displayed during the exhibit.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last March 16 where several honorable guests were present including 1st District Councilor Lorie Avila, acting admin officer PDO IV Juvy T. Alayon, Edgar Oliveros officer-in-charge (OIC) of Division Chief of Davao, Juliet Trinidad and Evelyn Magnaye, along with Felcris Mall Manager Engr. Jesse Calañas and Leasing Head Ivy Omo.

The Coconut Festival participants and exhibitors came from Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, San Isidro Davao Oriental, ARSK, BF Industries, Malagos Cawayan, Green Asia Agri Ventures.

Alayon said the festival aims to showcase coconut as “the tree of life.”
My favorite day would have to be the 3rd Day of the Festival, drinks flew, saw a lot of bottles in the air, audience cheered and men twerked as bartenders showed off their fanciest moves in the much awaited Flair Tending competition.

Who wouldn’t want to know how to make a mouthwatering coconut shrimp?
Thanks to Chef Mon Abalos of Isla Care Incorporated and his team, the featured recipe which include “Coconut Shrimp”, “Chicken–Thai Green Curry”, “Coconut Pannacotta with Tapioca & fresh Fruit Salsa” were the best among those served.

Felcris Centrale also joined the observance of Earth Hour last Saturday, March 19.

This is the mall’s contribution to help stop climate change. Lights were also turned off as the crowd gathered in a ceremonial countdown, as did nearby buildings. Fire dancers, rock band, Drumbeaters and other performers entertained the crowd during the whole duration.

During the five day event, Felcris Centrale also hosted a string line of activities which include Tabula Rasa: Obra Ginagmay by UM Fine Arts Exbihit.

There is also Beta Fish Competition, Tattoo Competition and Acoustic sessions, featuring “Influence Band” and “The Unexpected”.

Fine art, food, music crafts, Felcris Centrale did a great job in giving its shoppers a highly anticipated admission free and fun-filled week.
