Kicking the Kadayawan vibes

MINDANAO'S "Festival of festivals" kicks off with a string line of activities as tribute to life, nature, and abundant harvest.

The 31st Kadayawan festival, which started on Monday, will run until August 21.

The Kadayawan Floral Fusion took place on August 12 at the SM City in collaboration with the organizers of the Kadayawan Farm and Agro-Trade Fair namely the Puentespina Farms, Minfed, and Fidi. It is a competition that upholds the highest level of floristry and promotes floral design as a recognized profession.

The competition was open to all florist, floral designers, floral art enthusiast, and hobbyists and was staged at the SM City Davao, Annex Event Center. Participants competed for two categories, the Handheld/Bouquet or Head Dress Creation and Floral Installation or Centerpiece.

Judges for the competition include Plant Book Author, Bonsai Artist, and Landscape Designer Mr. Andres Golamco, Ikebana Davao International Former President Mrs. Nene Abaca, City Tourism Office Asec. Genrose Tecson, and floral exhibit enthusiast Mrs. Ester de Jesus.

Ten out of the 50 florists and hobbyists who submitted their creations earlier made it to the live competition. Grand Prize winners took home P7,000 for Handheld/Bouquet or Head Dress Creation category and P10,000 for the Floral Installation or Centerpiece.

Kadayawan Grillfest dubbed as South by Mouth also opened on the same day at the mall. The fun never ceases with the Sayaw Mindanao Dance Showcase which highlights the different indigenous dances and performances to celebrate Mindanao’s great talent. Excitement will just continue to heighten with the presence of many celebrities and artists who will be joining Dabawenyos for the celebration.

Castaway Vibe Fest, a musical festival, will also take place on August 19, six p.m. at the Open Parking C of SM City. Sponge Cola Fanatics will have the chance to see the band perform on stage during the event together with DJs Ron Poe, Jet Boado, Carlo Atendido, Mark Marasigan, Travis Monsod, PaeDobles and Neil Recinto.
