Housing company gives free insurance to Deca buyers

Monday, October 17, 2016

DAVAO. Januario Jesus Gregorio Atencio III, 8990 president and chief executive officer (CEO), reiterates the company’s mission to do good to other people using mass housing as vehicle and thereby transforming their lives for the better as he addresses some 300 8990 Housing Development Corporation sales agents along with their unit managers during a quarterly sales rally held at SMX Convention Center, Thursday, Oct. 13. LIVING up to its mantra of changing lives for the better, veteran mass housing 8990 Holdings, Inc., a publicly-listed company, trail blazes anew through its recent collaboration with SunLife of Canada (Philippines), Inc. in providing homebuyers free insurance and financial benefits for every Deca Homes unit they buy.

Januario Jesus Gregorio Atencio III, 8990 president and chief executive officer (CEO), bared this in an interview with SunStar Davao Thursday, October 13, at the sidelines of 8990 Housing Development Corporation Davao branch quarterly sales rally at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier in Davao City.

He said, “This is really good for our homebuyers who will be direct beneficiaries of this initiative.” SunLife Financial senior manager Aleister Cruz, for his part, said SunLife and 8990 announced the collaboration two months ago in a bid to “bundle life insurance and mutual fund investments with Deca Homes communities”.

Cruz said that all in-house-financed clients - current and in good standing as well as future homebuyers can avail of the newest 8990 offering.

“If and when the homebuyer dies, his or her family or beneficiary can claim P500,000 benefit. The homebuyer will just have to continue paying the monthly amortization while 8990 pays for the insurance on his or her behalf,” he said in a separate interview, adding that 8990 is starting a mutual fund through SunLife and contributions will be put into the fund.

Once the client completes the payment of the loan, he or she will be entitled to a share in that fund. Cruz also said that 8990 will regularly update SunLife on the performance of in-house-financed homebuyers. But for Deca Homes owners who have been migrated to Pag-ibig Fund, Cruz said they are still discussing on what they can do for them as the collaboration between the two companies is long-term.

“First initiative pa naman ito. We are still exploring other initiatives,” Cruz, who was also among the resource speakers of the sales rally, said.

Willibaldo Uy, 8990 chief operating officer, said the insurance is an added incentive that homebuyers can enjoy whenever they get any Deca unit from any of the 8990 branches nationwide.

More than housing

The free insurance is just an add-on benefit in improving the lives of Deca homebuyers for the better. A big hit among homebuyers is 8990’s Drive Your Home to Pag-Ibig promo where a Deca home owner whose account is converted to Pag-Ibig will receive a brand new motorcycle.

Atencio, speaking before three hundred 8990 Davao agents and unit managers, thus, reiterated his past pronouncements that they do not just exist to sell houses to earn as he puts premium on making the lives of customers better because of housing.

“Meron tayong ginagawa para kumita pero meron din tayong ginagawa para din sa kabutihan ng iba. Housing is just a strong vehicle to effect change,” he said.

Atencio shares feeling sad whenever he receives complaints from Deca homeowners through Messenger, Viber or SMS and that he personally replies to each of them, saying that he may be the only company CEO who is doing such. He also said that it’s important for him to make Deca homebuyers happy.

“That’s why we are here. God gave us a mission and that is to do good to other people using mass housing as vehicle by which we can transform people’s lives for the better. Not too many people are given that opportunity to be part of that change,” he said.
