THE food scene in Davao City continues to become lively with the regular staging of food fairs by various organizers. The beauty of the food fairs is it allows the public to experience new and delicious food at the same time it allows food-related start-ups to test the waters.

Among the notable ones is the staging of the monthly themed The Weekend Market by Manic Nightnings. There are also those held by SM Lanang Premier like their recent Cravings at the Northwing on July 14 to 15, 2017 or Damosa Land's Damosa Food Fest last July 26 to 29.

The food options found here ranges from burgers to rice meals to desserts, popular Filipino favorites to foreign delights like Japanese and Korean.

Participants range from established homegrown favorites, like The Griddle or Fatboy's Kitchen, to start-ups like Coco and Nuts or The Lobster Shack.

Activities like these definitely help restaurants and start-ups as they give the Dabawenyos a taste of what they offer. If their products are a hit then for the established ones, Dabawenyos would gain interest in visiting them while the start-ups will be inspired to develop and grow their business.

My friends and I have visited some of the recent food fairs in Davao City and, overall, we were not disappointed with most of the food that was offered here.

Since the start of the year, I have only visited two, The Weekend Market: Taste of the Nation last June 22 to 25 and The Cravings at Northwing on July 14 to 16, both staged at SM Lanang Premier.

Among the standouts we had included Coco and Nuts' ice cream in a coconut; The Lobster Shack's Grilled Lobster with Cheese; Perch’s Glorious Nachos; and Fatboy’s Kitchen’s Binagoongang Pancit Canton.

Food fairs have definitely enhanced the food scene of Davao City as it introduces to Dabawenyos unique food concepts and local brands. Keep this in mind, everytime you visit here, you are helping in the growth and development of our homegrown brands and local food scene.

To see the latest food fairs in the city, regularly check the Facebook pages of Manic Nightnights, SM Lanang Premier, and Damosa Land Community. The three regularly stage food fairs in the city.
