A Canine Christmas

"SIP a Martini and Save a Mutt." That was the theme of the recently concluded event "MUTTINI" A Christmas Cocktail Party to help rescue dogs in Davao City.

The event was held last December 18, 2010 at the Robinsons Cybergate Davao Al Fresco Area. It was organized by MyPetChannel.tv, together with Tata Benito's Café and My Furry Baby.

The charity event was put together to benefit B.A.R.K or the Baba's Asong-Pinoy Rescue Ko program of Baba's Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization based in Davao City.

B.A.R.K started out as a rescue project born out of a visceral reaction to the controversial Tambucho Euthanasia. This was an issue that the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (Paws), together with other groups and pet welfare communities lobbied against in recent months.

MyPetChannel.tv, a Manila-based pet product marketing company that specializes in branding, internet and event promotions, as well as video production, spearheaded the fundraiser to help the organization's increasing needs as more dogs are being rescued and fostered by volunteers.

The event's objective was to introduce the Animal Welfare program in the city of Davao, particularly the pet lovers and concerned citizens who believe in the pursuit of a humane society.

In the spirit of the season, pet parents and their fur kids dressed in their Christmas best braved the holiday rush to attend the party.

Despite the toll of traffic and a little threat of rain, the furry revelers were welcomed with Loot Bags filled with Burp pet treats, Bow Wow dog food, and pet grooming products by HandyMan, while their owners were served with delicious drinks by FizzBee Cocktails and Tata Benito's signature Lattini and Iced Tea!

Special Wacky Awardees such as The Hairiest Pet, The Longest Pet, The Biggest and Smallest Pet, and the Furry Fashionista were each given five-kilogram bags of Bow Wow Dog Chow, while 20-kilogram bags were given out as Raffle Draw prizes.

The biggest group attendance, which was from the Dachshund Club of Davao, was also specially recognized that night.

HandyMan Bow Wow was B.A.R.K.'s Santa Claus for the evening as more than 200 kilograms of dog food were given to the fledgling dog rescue program.

B.A.R.K. is currently managed by a small number of volunteers headed by Chris Baker. In the absence of a legitimate dog shelter, the volunteers have to rehabilitate the rescued dogs in their own homes until a suitable foster or adoptive pet parent is found. The generous dog food donation by HandyMan will truly come in "handy" as more dogs will be rescued from the Davao City dog pound.

Dr. Joseph Palarca of MyPetChannel.tv ended the activity by thanking the kindhearted people who took time to come to the party to learn more about how they can help the dog rescue program.

"Though this is just a small intimate affair, it's a start of a series of fundraisers that we wish to do for B.A.R.K. We believe in the project and we would like to help educate Davao City about animal welfare, and encourage the community to have a heart for the Asong Pinoy," he said.

"MUTTINI" was presented by MyPetChannel.tv on behalf of B.A.R.K., and made possible by the following sponsors: Tata Benito's Café, HandyMan Bow Wow Dog Chow, Robinsons Cybergate Davao, FizzBee Cocktails, My Furry Baby, Mayen Lozada Photography, and Media Partner SouthSpot Entertainment Network.
