Old School is cool

WRITING on any topic is a rest to me, considering the loads of work in my new job. And to be able to go out with my adoptive group is a bonus.

Camaraderie is shared by this group through common interests in cars, car accessories and anything under the heat of the sun.

The group called Old School Davao started last April 25, 2009 after chatting and meeting up of its members through wires. Conferences every Saturday night at a mall's car park and on some other places served as the group's bonding time.

"Instead of considering OSD (Old Skool Davao) as a group, we just call it barkadahan. We don't even have our set of officers," Andrew Ilagan said, adding that his groupmates also wanted it that way to avoid pressure within the group.

With frequent bonding, the group has come up with its logo, shirts, stickers which were used during city events and races.

In a year, they have joined city parades and other drag races sponsored by different groups and individuals.

Composed of young professionals, the group sees to it that they will have time with each other to discuss stuffs. "Our cars are also our hobbies and since most of our group mates are all professionals, we really see to it that we get to see each other once a week amidst our busy schedules," Ilagan said.

The group also helps each other in looking for spare parts of old cars and is also looking forward to helping other individuals who want to restore old school cars while sharing a a common passion.

"It's very difficult for us to look for parts, genuine parts, needed by our cars. What we do is consult each other on where to buy anything that we need for our cars," Ilagan said.

From a group of four, the group reached its membership to more than twenty members and counting. The group is also planning on having charity works and other activities which will be of help to the community.
