A TOTAL of 250 contingents joined the traditional street parade in the 74th Araw ng Dabaw, which started around 8 a.m. Wednesday at Magsaysay Park, Davao City.

James A. Zimmerman, chairperson of the Araw ng Dabaw 2011 executive committee, said this is the biggest number ever, topping last year's participation by 237 contingents.

Zimmerman said around 200 groups were officially enlisted on Tuesday evening, but more requested to join at the last minute.

They were the Traffic Management Center (TMC), On Any Sunday Riders, Davao Agila Riders, Kabayan Ryders Club, Steelhorse/Durian Riders Club, Roadrunner Motorcycle Riders Group, Kamikaze Dual Sport Riders Club, Ayams Riders Club, Karancho Inc., Team y Competence Motorcycle Club of Davao City, and Team Underground Bikers Club, to name a few.

Zimmerman acknowledged all the groups that graced the parade as he also apologized to those who wanted to join but had to be refused due to the big number of contingents.

"Actually, mas maraming contingents this time. Marami pa nga ang hindi na kasama kaya naghingi na ako ng paumanhin talaga kasi I have to make a cut off, baka sa sobrang dami hindi tayo matapos-tapos ng maaga," Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman proudly said the 74th Araw ng Dabaw has been celebrated successfully in city-sponsored activities like Sayawan sa Da'an, Pakonsierto ni Mayor Inday Sara ug Vice Mayor Rody, Mutya ng Dabaw, Parada Dabawenyo, and Banda Hudyaka.

He also thanked law enforcement agencies for their efforts to secure the city during the three-day celebration.

"Overall, our assessment of the Araw ng Dabaw celebration was generally peaceful and successful," Zimmerman said.
