Taxis now charging new approved rates

ALMOST all taxi units in Davao City are now collecting the new approved fare as the calibration period for all taxi units ended Friday.
Benjamin Go, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-Davao chief, said they have recorded high rate of compliance among large-scale taxi companies.
The two-month recalibration period started mid-February when the new fare was approved earlier this year.
Although the prescribed period has already lapsed, taxi owners and operators can still have their taxi calibrated.
"Pwede pa rin naman sila magpa-calibrate pero may multa na (they can still have their meters calibrated but with the fines), P5,000 per taxi unit," Go said.
Go cannot say how many taxi units are left to be calibrated.
The Department of Transportation and Communication, along with the LTFRB, has required all taxi to be calibrated before they can charge the new rates.
The new rate ups the flagdown from P30 to P40, covering the first four kilometers and an additional P3.50 for every 250 meters instead of P2.50.
