KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) handed on Tuesday a brand-new sterilizer set for the safety of patients at the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) in Cotabato City.
The ICRC said the state-of-the-art equipment from Germany will help the hospital provide better services, especially on surgical operations.
The device uses heat to sterilize dressings, essential materials, and instruments for surgery.
Dr. Helen Yambao, CRMC chief of hospitals, said that as part of infection control, all materials used for surgery, from gowns to water, undergo sterilization.
"With the new sterilizer, we can provide our patients with an even higher level of safety than before," said Yamao.
The CRMC is the only government tertiary hospital in Southwest Mindanao that provides health services to patients mostly coming from conflict-affected towns in the region.
The ICRC, an independent organization that provides humanitarian help to victims of armed conflict, supports 13 hospitals in Mindanao, including CRMC.
