Over 30 photogs join Dive Seafari tilt

MORE than 30 photographers from all over the country will compete in the 1st Philippine Dive Seafari photo contest slated April 29-30 in Davao City.

Richard Hurlbut, general manager of Carabao Dive Center (CDC), said "the competition will showcase the best talents of photographers in the Philippines." CDC is spearheading the competition.

Participants will explore and develop macro photography in the Davao Gulf area, where they are only allowed to shoot and take actions.

There are three categories in the competition:

* Special beginner category -- Divers with less than two years of photography experience and unpublished photos. They are not allowed to use external lightings for the competition.

* Intermediate category -- Any length of point and shoot experience and they are allowed to use external lightings for the competition with published photos.

* Open category -- Professional and amateur photographers are allowed to use special equipments for more captivating picture angles. All open category competitors will have published photos to join the category.

All photo-divers will have their own diving and photo equipment, can have their own crew and must be registered by 6 a.m. Friday at CDC.

Arnold Gerald King, CDC spokesperson, said: "Photos of the first place winners in all categories will be exhibited at Ayala Museum in Manila and final judgment will be on May 4, 2011. Cash prize and trophy awaits the best photographer of the country."

The competition is recognized by the Department of Tourism and the winning photo will be included in next year's photo slogan of the city.
