MORE than 100 members of the 11th Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) are undergoing a Basic Scout Ranger Training at Police Regional Office (PRO) at Camp Catitipan, Davao City on May 9 to 15.
Supt. Florencio T. Ortilla, chief of 11th RPSB, said his group is mandated to assist and support the Army's 10th Infantry Division in the conduct of combat operations in Davao Region.
Ortilla said RPSB had decided to create this unprogrammed training to update its troops on their role and responsibilities.
"Ito ay para mapakita sa kanila kung ano yung mga specific na mga styles and SOP's ng conduct ng combat operations ng ating Scout Ranger. And in terms of the conduct operation, elite talaga itong Scout Rangers, kaya 'yong training nila ay rigid," Ortilla said.
Ortilla said troops belonging to 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion have been deployed in Mabini, Compostela Valley to assist other troops there.
Ortilla said among the trainings being conducted are statistic display, section movements, patrolling, field training exercise, firing, among others.
Ortilla said training starts at 4 a.m. with road run exercise followed by other series of trainings until 10 p.m.
"Ang PRO (Police Regional Office) 11 pa lang ang meron nito. This is not yet done in other regions. So through initiative nalang namin, we set a standard procedure ng isang Scout Ranger in conducting such combat operation," Ortilla said.
