Bank exec in American's slay to face complaints

THE lawyer of a bank manager, accused of killing an American national inside the latter's house in Woodridge Subdivision in Ma-a, said his client is willing to face the complaints before the City Prosecution Office (CPO).

In a press statement, lawyer Ramon Edison C. Bacatan, counsel of the accused Ramon S. Jungco Jr., said his client is "confident of exoneration" because the pieces of evidence were hearsays and are not sufficient to establish probable cause.

He said, in fact, his client is not aware of any criminal charges filed against him.

"Neither did he receive any official notice informing him of the same," he said.

Bacatan also clarified that Jungco is not under police detention contrary to a news report (not in Sun.Star Davao).

Jungco is not under arrest nor detained since the start of the investigation on the death of Basi Joseph Griffin.

The 73-year-old American national was found dead on the restroom of the master's bedroom in Woodridge Park Subdivision in Ma-a, Talomo district on January 3.

Batacan said it is not true that Jungco refused to be finger-printed or undergo investigation.

"It was Soco (Scene of Crime Operatives) Crime Lab that asked him to return the following day to complete the process as police officers dispatched to look into the incident shad to await the issuance of formal orders from their superiors before they could commence the investigation process," he said.

Batacan added that it was not true that his client's fingerprint was found on the murder weapon.

As per Soco report for the crime laboratory, it was declared that Mr. Jungco's fingerprints do not match those on the murder weapon, Batacan added.

Records from the CPO showed that the robbery with homicide case against Jungco was already filed on February 4 and is presently under preliminary investigation.
