City spends 81% of education fund in 2011

DAVAO City utilized 81 percent of its Special Educational Fund (SEF) for 2011, which translates to P254.9 million of the total P314.4 million.
The statement of income and expenses of the City Government for the calendar year 2011 showed that of the P314,422,004.71 gross income under SEF, a total of P254,956,622.76 was spent by the city, a large chunk of which or 18 percent went to salaries and wages of regular of city-paid teachers amounting to P57,836,797.33.

Of the P314.4 million SEF in 2011, 99.6 percent of it or P313,347,924.89 came from local taxes which included special education tax and from fines and penalties under local taxes.
The remaining P1,074,079.82 came from another income particularly from interests representing less than one percent of the total SEF for 2011.
In 2010, the city spent a total of P217,329,268.42, representing 84 percent of its P258,580,151.17 SEF.
In the same year, 22 percent of the city's SEF went to salaries of regular city-paid teachers amounting to P57,020,721.33.
The city's P314.4-million SEF for 2011 is 17 percent higher than the city's P258.6-million SEF in 2010. (Jereco O. Paloma)
