Guv nixes flyover project in Panabo

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

DAVAO del Norte Governor Rodolfo P. Del Rosario objected to the construction of the P400-million flyover project in Panabo City due to lack of proper consultation.

In his letter addressed to Oscar C. Villanueva, OIC-project director of the President's Bridge Program Office, the governor asked for the suspension of the French-assisted project along the Pan-Philippines Highway-Tadeco Road Intersection in Panabo City.

Del Rosario rebuffed the project office's claim that "there was no opposing entity" to the proposed project, which was scheduled to start on February 20.

He lamented the "railroading manner of decision-making," as there was no proper consultation conducted.

He also reiterated his objection as to the proposed location and position of the project.

"The flyover should be put across the national road," he said.

It can be recalled that during the consultation done in October 19, 2011, the Provincial Government had made it clear that it "will not oppose the implementation of the said project as long as the concerned people within the perimeter will be properly consulted."

But because of lack of consultation, Del Rosario joined the Clergy of Sto. Niño Parish and the Sisters of Maryknoll High School in expressing their objection to the project.

The governor has also withdrawn the endorsement of the province for the project to the Regional Development Council.

"I can endorse as many flyovers in Panabo as the government can, provided they are in appropriate location," he said.
