A CIVILIAN was killed, while a soldier was hurt in a fight for a woman in Fatima Village, Bajada, Davao City on Sunday evening.
Superintendent Antonio Rivera, chief of San Pedro police station, identified the fatality as Ferdinand I. Labong, 43, resident of Fatima Village in Obrero, while the wounded soldier was identified as Tristan Bongcac Mateo, 30, a member of the 9th Infantry Division and a resident of Bangkal in Davao City.
According to initial investigation, Rolando Sarosos, 51, the tenant of a unit at the first floor of the building at Fatima Village, only heard successive gunshots coming from the second floor.
Rivera said he learned that Labong was a former boyfriend of Cynthia Catherine Ganal, 28, a tenant at the second floor of the same building, while Mateo is her present boyfriend.
"Ganal invited Mateo at their house kay piyesta man sa San Juan katong Sunday. Unya nahibal-an man na ni Labong, kini diay si Labong bale wala pa daw ni siya ka get over sa iya uyab mao to iya gisaka didto sa balay unya gisaksak ang sundalo (The woman invited her present boyfriend Mateo to their house for the fiesta last Sunday. Labong learned of this, and he apparently had not yet been able to move on from their past relationship, he attacked Mateo and stabbed him)," Rivera narrated.
Rivera added that Mateo fought back and shot Labong several times before he fell to the floor. Ganal ran out of the house in fear.
"Naa na siya ganina, ug mihatag na sya sa iyang nahibal-an sa panghitabo. Si Labong daw ang misugod una didto sa ila ug dayon gisaksak si Mateo (Ganal was here yesterday and he already gave her version of what happened. It was Labong who attacked Mateo, she said)," Rivera said.
