A SALESLADY of a shopping center on Uyanguren St. in Davao City is facing charges before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) for stealing P172,000 cash owned by her employer.
Charged with qualified theft was Judith Bantac, 21, based on the complaint filed by Alvin So, owner of Star Fit Footwear Marketing.
Court records showed that the respondent was an entrusted employee who worked with So for six years.
In his affidavit, So said he trusted Bantac to make daily deposits and withdrawal from his bank account.
He said he gave the accused P172,000 to be deposited at PS Bank-Monteverde around 9 a.m. of June 25.
He said hours had passed but the respondent failed to return to their store.
After he inquired about the whereabouts of his employee, he learned that the Bantac did not go to the bank and never made any deposit.
It prompted him to ask assistance from the police.
Around 3 p.m. of the same day, So, along with authorities, went to Bantac's boarding house where they caught up with the accused.
So said the accused was crying and begging him to forgive her as she was "tempted to abscond the money."
Bantac told him that she handed the money to her friends, certain Maricel, Jimmy and one more unidentified person.
Prosecutor Lady Zozobrado found probable cause to charge Bantac.
Zozobrado recommended P70,000 bail for the respondent's temporary liberty. (ANC)
