City to hold seminar for jeepney drivers

THE Davao City Government is set to conduct a seminar for Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers in four Fridays of July starting tomorrow, Friday.
Joel Santos, of the Davao City Traffic Management Center (TMC), told Sun.Star Davao on Wednesday that the City Government has decided to hold the seminar for four consecutive Fridays; unlike last month when the seminar was only held twice.
"Diyan tinuturo ang lahat ng mga bagay na dapat malaman ng mga drivers (That is where all the things that a driver should learn are being taught)," Santos said.
Santos said among the things that will be discussed in seminar include the road regulations, fines and penalties, and traffic rules in general, among others.
The seminar is organized by the City Government through the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) in coordination with the TMC.
Santos said the TMC is expecting 500 attendees per Friday.
"Wala na silang babayaran sila kahit singko dalhin lang nila yung kanilang (They don't need to pay any amount, they just have to bring their) driver license and OR-CR," Santos said.
All PUV drivers, which include taxi, jeepneys, buses, are required to attend the seminar date in order to claim their driver's ID.
The ID is one of the mandates of the city ordinance passed last year requiring all PUV drivers to have a uniform ID issued by the City Government.
Last year, the city has issued at least 18,000 IDs to PUV drivers based in Davao City. (JOP)
