FORMER President Joseph Ejercito "Erap" Estrada who paid a courtesy call on Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Friday said he is open to the possibility of persuading the mayor to run for a national position in the upcoming 2013 midterm elections.
In a brief interaction with the media Friday morning at the City Hall after his short talk with the mayor, along with her department heads, Estrada said Duterte-Carpio has a lot to contribute not only to the city of Davao, but even to the country in general.
"But she's still too young. She still has a lot of things to do here in Davao City. The people of Davao need her very much," Erap said.
Along with Estrada was his son Joseph Victor (JV) Ejercito who visited the city without prior announcement.
Estrada's arrival in the city was announced Friday morning to media.
Earlier, Duterte-Carpio admitted that her problem is not whether to run or not, but rather on what position.
She said she is open to all possibilities that the Almighty might bring to her doors when the time arrives when she has to make a final decision.
During Estrada's visit, almost all the 19 department heads of the City Government were at the Presidential Room of the City Hall.
"Modagan ko, provided that sa position na gusto nako, kung unsa ‘to, kana ang dili sa nako i-sulti kay syempre wala pa may discussion, planning yet, nothing (I will run, provided in a position that I personally like, but on what position, that I will not tell you because we haven't discussed anything)," Duterte-Carpio earlier said.
Among the factors that the mayor is considering are her finances and health, as she wants to have a baby.
She said she is not in a hurry as there is still ample time between now and the filing of Certificate of Candidacy on October 1-5.
