PWD-friendly polls sought

A GROUP of persons with disability (PWD) has called on the government to make the 2013 midterm elections PWD-friendly.
Teogenes Comiling, president of PWD Organization in Davao City told reporters Thursday that they don't want a similar scenario to happen just like the previous elections wherein they recorded a minimal turnout of voters among PWDs.
"There were only a few PWDs who have voted because of the inaccessibility of the voting precincts," Comiling said.
The issuance of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Minute Resolution Number 10-0326 provides the extension of preferential treatment to senior citizens, pregnant women and persons with disabilities on Election Day and designate polling places located at the ground floor of the voting centers, or providing them express lanes.
Comiling said the order must be properly implemented in Davao City to encourage active participation of the persons with disability.
