DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said on Friday the City Government has allocated some P6 million for the cash prizes of various competitions slated during the celebration of the 27th Kadayawan sa Dabaw.

Duterte-Carpio, during the festival’s formal opening at the People's Park on Friday, also said bigger cash prizes will also be given to winners of the City Government's sports festival.

"Dako-dako pud ang gigahin para sa sportsfest (A bigger budget will also be allocated for the sportfest)," she said.

She said City Government's contribution to the festival includes allocation of funds for the cash prizes and food provision for the security personnel.

The city mayor recently announced that the City Government has increased the prizes for this year's Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan.

For the open category, the mayor said the grand champion will receive P500,000, up from last year's P300,000. For the second placer, the winning team will take home P400,000, up from P200,000 a year earlier.

The third placer in the same category will receive P300,000, up from last year's P150,000. The fourth placer will receive P200,000, up by P100,000 as compared to last year's prize. The 5th placer will receive P100,000, also up by P50,000.

For this category, 10 consolation prizes worth P50,000 will be given to participating groups.

For the Davao-based category, the winners will also receive bigger cash prizes.

"Both champions for open and Davao-based categories will receive half a million pesos," she said.

For Davao-based category champion, the team will receive P500,000, increased from last year's P150,000; second placer will receive P400,000, up from last year's P100,000; third placer will receive P300,000, up from last year's P75,000; fourth placer will receive P100,000, up from last year's P50,000; and fifth runner-up will receive P75,000, up from last year's P25,000.

Duterte-Carpio added that 10 consolation prizes will be given out to participating teams who fail to bag major awards.

This year's celebration of Kadayawan Festival is bigger compared a year earlier, as the celebration is highlighted by more events, she said.
