DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said on Friday that this year's staging of Kadayawan sa Dabaw is expected to bring bigger impact in the promotion of city's tourism.
At the opening of the 27th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival at the People's Park, Duterte-Carpio said the month-long celebration has drawn so much attention from the visitors, which may result to the influx of more tourists who will join the celebration.
"People really go to places where there's festival like this one, which is unique to Davao," she said.
This year's events are a combination of new and old. Organizers of the festival have lined up 38 different activities for the whole month, 14 of which are official events while 24 are accredited events.
There will also be a special event launching of the Liwanag World Festival on August 18, spearheaded by the City Agriculturist Office.
In previous report, Department of Tourism regional director Art Boncato said they are expecting more than 70,000 tourist arrivals for the whole of August.
He also lauded the City Government for adding more weeks to the celebration, which will give tourists more time to visit the city.
"Travelers are always on short notice in making decision. When they get tickets, they will fly to the city," he said. (Antonio L. Colina IV)
