Davao, TFD to ink deal giving task force space at terminal

THE City Government of Davao and the Task Force Davao (TFD) will ink a memorandum of agreement (MOA) allowing the TF personnel to occupy a space at the second floor of the Davao City Overland Transport terminal (DCOTT) Lounge and Hostel Building as living and office quarters.

The move was endorsed to the City Council and was approved under first reading during the regular session on Tuesday.

Council defers discussion on revised land used plan

THE City Council of Davao deferred Tuesday the discussion on the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (Clup) to give other members of the body time to study the measurements.

The item is set to be tackled on June 4 with the three volumes, copies of which will be distributed to each of the councilors.

Duterte mulls adjusting liquor ban time

DAVAO City mayor-elect Rodrigo Duterte is keen on changing the 2 a.m. liquor ban in the city, but instead of the midnight ban, he is contemplating on making it to 1 a.m.

The main objective, Duterte said, is to keep the younger generation from harm's way.

Farmer faces raps for rape

A FARMER is facing charges before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl eight years ago.

Charged with four counts of Republic Act (RA) 8353 or The Anti-Rape Law of 1997 and RA 7610 or The Protection Against Child Abuse was Redelio Espina Montero, a farmer, of Paquibato District in Davao City.

Chinese national pleads not guilty to gun raps

A CHINESE national earlier charged for carrying a firearm during the election period denied on Tuesday the charges filed against him before the Regional Trial Court (RTC).

2 landmine blasts hurt 8 people in Davao Norte

FIVE soldiers and three civilians were wounded in two separate landmine explosions allegedly perpetrated by members of the New People's Army (NPA) along the national highway in Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley on Tuesday morning.

The first landmine blast took place at 6 a.m. that wounded Private First Class (Pfc.) Lovie Joy Semillano, Pfc. Bai Johana Durado, Pfc. Joseph A. Mendio, Pfc. Erwin Cordero, Pfc. Ryan Torena, and one civilian named Gina Gubantes.

Davao police record slight hike in crime volume

THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) recorded a slight increase in the crime volume for the first quarter of 2013 compared to same period last year.

Based on the data gathered by the DCPO-Investigation and Detection Management Branch, the Davao police office tallied a total of 2,863 crime incidents, or a 5.25 percent increase compared to last year's total of 2,689 in the first three months.

Ex-cop’s son nabbed in buy-bust operation

POLICE arrested a son of a former policeman in a drug buy-bust operation conducted in Barangay 37-D Poblacion, Davao City, around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Nabbed was Jessie James Batulan, a 30-year-old businessman and son of a former Senior Police Officer 4 (SPO4) based at the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).

Council to tackle new land use plan

Sara to deliver Soca on June 11

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will deliver her last State of the City Address (Soca) in June 11, before she steps down from office on June 30.

The first initial schedule, September 25, was postponed because of her first trimester of pregnancy, while her second schedule, November, was again deferred as she decided to come up with the Soca before her term ends.

Blast rocks North Cotabato town

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A loud blast rocked Poblacion in Kabacan, North Cotabato Sunday evening.

Superintendent Leo Ajero, chief of Kabacan police, said the explosion came from a projectile of a 40mm mortar fired from an M203 grenade launcher.

2 men face charges for illegal drugs

POLICE filed charges before the City Prosecution Office (CPO) on Monday against a driver and a helper for illegal drugs.

Charged with violation of the Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were Virgilio Ramos Laput, alias Tating, 32, a tricycle driver and Mhike Jed Catulong Rufino, alias Makoy, 19, a helper, both residents of Vista Verde, Lawaan Street in Barangay Sasa in Davao City.

Police visibility heightened vs crimes

SASA Police Station commander Superintendent Royina Garma said the police station is increasing police visibility in the different communities in Davao City to reduce the numbers of crimes.

Out of the 35 crimes against property, 15 were robbery incidents while 20 are cases of theft.

Suspected thief nabbed

POLICE arrested a suspect who was caught in the act of stealing inside a house in Barangay Tungkalan, Toril, Davao City at 1 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect was identified as Bobby Otico Abejuela, 29, and a resident of Purok 1, of the said barangay, while the victim was identified as Jerelyn Tamayo Borja, 26, and also a resident of the same barangay.

Basketball league set for pushers, users

Davao sets sewerage law

THE law that will penalize those who own structures without septic tanks and that are not regularly desludged has already been signed even before Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio went on maternity leave.

The Davao City Septage and Sewerage Ordinance was approved by the City Council in February 2010, but without its implementing rules and regulations (IRR), it was nothing but paper.

P173-M supplemental budget up for discussion

2 slay suspects nabbed

Drug pusher falls in buy-bust

13-hour brownout hits North Cotabato

Pinol moves for exclusion of 2 towns in canvassing

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Cotabato Governor Manny Pinol filed a petition before the Cotabato Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) to exclude in the canvassing the towns of Pikit and Carmen due to alleged "high improbability of the voters' turnout."

Pinol, in a radio interview, said the two towns, based on the latest tally from Commission on Elections (Comelec), have a voters' turnout from 95 to 96 percent, which, according to him, "was highly improbable."

Police hunt 3 men in Toril shooting

Shop, office lose P55,000 in robbery

SOME P55,000 worth of valuables were taken in two separate robbery incidents in Davao City on Friday and Saturday morning.

The first incident happened at Holy Infant Jesus of Prague at Shrine Hills in Matina at 3 a.m. where a total of P15,000 valuables were missing after unidentified men broke inside a souvenir shop and an office in the area.
