THE newly crowned Hiyas sa Kadayawan 2012 wants to take advantage of her crown to help the local government push more programs for children and for her to be a model for the youth.
“Outreach program para sa mga bata, turuan sila paano mabuhay, hindi namamalimos. Hindi ko masasabing mahirap ang buhay, lahat ng magulang kayang buhayin ang anak pero minsan may mga magulang na hindi nila kayang sustentohan ang pag-aaral ng mga bata,” she said.
She assures Dabawenyos that she will do her best during her reign as Hiyas.
“I will promote the ten tribes, one vibe,” she said, adding that her strong faith in Allah had helped her win the crown.
Ali thanked all those who have supported her. She also extended her gratitude toward the event’s organizers and Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
During the coronation night, Ali was asked how she could promote Davao City to foreign and domestic tourists being a tourism student.
Ali answered, “I will promote Davao City by setting myself as a Dabawenya, and promote my rich cultural heritage in which I will portray the role of a walking encyclopedia. Showcasing and promoting the beauty of our city. With that, I will let the world know that Davao City is a land of beauty amidst diversity, a heaven and earth where Dabawenyos live in harmony despite of our cultural differences. For in my mind and in my heart, Davao City is the paradise and place of loving and hospitable people.”
She also picked the picture of the City Hall, describing it as “more than just a landmark”.
“It is the home of our local government unit with 182 barangays. I am honored and dignified to say that the LGU of Davao City is recognized as leading all the National Government units in the country,” she said.
Ali is the second of five siblings. Her mother is working in Bahrain.
The Maguindanaon tribe expressed how they are very proud of Jean Ali, the newly crowned Hiyas sa Kadayawan 2012.
Esmael “Mike” Nakam, deputy mayor of Maguindanaon tribe, told Sun.Star Davao after the coronation night that he is very proud that Ali won.
He said he “has chosen just the best.”
“Lahat naman ng mga kandidatang napipili naming ay magagaling at magaganda. Pero si Jean ngayon nakuha niya talaga ang title,” Nakam said.
“It is our honor that this year, we won,” he added.
