Two kids perish in Cotabato fire

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Two children died in a fire in Cotabato province on Monday night.
The victims were identified as Nicole Alquino, 5; and her brother, Sokate, 3, both residents of Habitat Village, Barangay Sadaan, Midsayap.
According to Cotabato Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Cornelio Salinas, the victim's mother went on an errand at a neighborhood store and left the two alone around 7:45 p.m.
Neighbors were alarmed to see the victims' house go up in flames and tried to rescue the two.
Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Midsayap) immediately responded and prevented the fire from spreading to other houses.
Upon initial investigation, a lighted lamp from the altar that fell on the floor caused the fire.
The family was using a kerosene lamp after failing to pay their electric bills for two months. (Edgardo Fuerzas)
