Cops arrest man in hijack try

POLICE arrested a man who tried to hijack a vehicle on corner Tulip Drive and Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City Tuesday afternoon.
Superintendent Dionisio Abude, chief of the Talomo police station, identified the suspect as Rodel Lara Estose, 23, of Barangay Kibaguio, Laak town, Compostela Valley.
The victim is Alvin Jay Balagtas Ramos, 30, registered nurse, resident of GSIS Heights, Matina, in Davao City.
Initial investigation showed that around 1:24 p.m., the victim along with his brother Christian parked their green Mitsubishi Pajero with plate number GHE 517 in front of Madison Car Parts and Accessories on Quimpo Boulevard.
The victim and his brother disembarked from the vehicle for a while, leaving the car keys inside, to inquire about an alarm device for their vehicle.
When Alvin turned around, he saw the suspect trying to start the engine of their vehicle prompting to call the police for assistance.
The suspect was then arrested and now detained at the Talomo police station.
Abude said they will still conduct further investigation to determine if the suspect is also involved in previous carnapping incidents here in Davao City.
Initial record at the Davao City Police Office showed a total of nine cars were stolen from January-July 2012. (Ivy C. Tejano)
