KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Continued skirmishes between the military and Muslim rebels forced hundreds of residents in North Cotabato to flee their homes on Tuesday afternoon.
Most of the affected families came from the remote areas of
Pikit and Aleosan, especially those living near military camps, which are the targets by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM) lead by Kumander Ustadz Ameril Umbra Kato.
Residents in the boundary of North Cotabato and Maguindanao, including those near the Cotabato-Davao Highway, believed to be the next target of the BIFM, also fled their homes.
It can be recalled that BIFM spokesperson Abu Misry Mama earlier warned of launching massive attacks after the Ramadan season.
Members of Kato have been spotted near Liguasan Marsh recently. Army's 6th Infantry Division chief Major General Rey Ardo, has deployed more forces in several areas in North Cotabato. (Edgardo Fuerzas)
