A SHOOTOUT ensued between the police and a notorious gang leader in Barangay Lizada in Toril, Davao City on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Inspector Dionisio Escubañez, chief of Toril police station, identified the suspect as Noel Camerino, alias Ton-Ton, 18, resident of Sodaco in Barangay Lizada, Toril.
Escubañez said the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. after a concerned citizen tipped off the whereabouts of the suspect.
Camerino is wanted by the police for several crimes, including robbery in the area.
"The team was about to arrest the suspect after he was seen in Sodaco. But he pulled out a firearm and pointed it to the arresting officers prompting us to shoot him," said Senior Police Officer 1 Robelio Rosete, investigator of the Toril Police Station.
Rosete added that the suspect managed to elude arrest despite gunshot wounds in his chest and arm.
Recovered from the crime scene was a homemade pistol and ammunition for M16 rifle.
The suspect was, however, arrested at the Southern Philippines Medical Center. He is now detained at Toril police station, while the police are preparing to file charges against him.
