Group hits Roxas appointment as DILG chief

AN ENVIRONMENT group said the appointment of Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II to replace the late Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo is a "launching pad" for his plan to run in the next presidential elections.
"Roxas sees the DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) post for having direct line to local political leaders nationwide. It becomes Roxas's launching pad for his presidential ambition in 2016 and counter the same efforts for his number one political foe, Vice President [Jejomar] Binay," Juland Suazo, Panalidpan spokesperson, said in a text message.
"This is disgustingly trapo (traditional politician) move contrary to the legacy and principles of Secretary Robredo," he added.
President Benigno Aquino III’s announcement of Roxas appointment was aired over the state-run PTV-4 on Friday morning.
Aquino said he is expecting Roxas to continue Robredo's initiative on government transparency and empowerment of local government units, beef up security in jails and improve the country's internal security.
