THE Regional Trial Court (RTC) scheduled next week the case review against the principal suspect in the killing of an election official.
A staff from RTC Branch 13 said the review of the violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) against Basser Bato Ampatuan, 39, former policeman based in Maguindanao, resident of General Luna Street in Cotabato City, is set for next week.
Ampatuan was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation at Tar's Diner on the corner of Juan Luna and Juan dela Cruz streets around 9:50 p.m. of August 29. The accused sold a sachet of illegal drugs to a poseur buyer.
Ampatuan is a former policeman with a rank of Police Officer 1 from 1998 to 2008.
The day after his arrest, authorities found out that Ampatuan is also accused of killing lawyer Aliden Dalaig, then director of Commission on Elections Law Department, on November 10, 2007.
Dalaig succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in his chest in front of the Hyatt Hotel on the corner M.H del Pilar and Pedro Gil Street in Ermita, Manila.
Ampatuan is also listed as the 27th most wanted in Central Mindanao.
Authorities are yet to conduct further verification if the accused is among the 191 suspects in the Maguindanao massacre in November 2009. (ANC)
