SOME 50 police bomb experts from different areas in Mindanao are undergoing an Introductory Bomb Data Center Training and Workshop here in Davao City from September 10-14.
Chief Superintendent Jaime H. Morente, director of the Police Regional Office (PRO), said the training and workshop is being conducted by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) for the local Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Teams.
Morente said the training aims to provide the authorities in Mindanao on the management of the bomb data center so as to address various threats and terroristic activities in its area of responsibility and ensure the security of the public.
He said that while Davao Region already has a center for explosive and ordnance here, the training and workshop is of a big help to them, as this will also increase their expertise on the matter.
"The knowledge that we can get from this training will definitely help us not only in the field of law enforcement and prosecution, but also to ensure the successful prosecution of cases against those responsible conducting terroristic activities," Morente said.
Morente said such training and workshop is a combined theory, physical fitness and safety training, and practical application.
"For the participants from different areas, I encouraged them to take full advantage of the presence of the experts, our instructors from Australia because we really need to upgrade our expertise on the matter," Morente said.
Morente added that they offer the workshop in commemoration of the World Trade Center 9/11 bombing.
"It is a grave reminder to us that these things can happen anytime. It is also a reminder to us to be on our toes to be always prepared to address various threats and terroristic activities," Morente said.
