Mangudadatu scion accused of rape to present evidence

THE defense counsel of a Mangudadatu scion accused of raping a nursing student said they are preparing to present their pieces of evidence denying the charges filed against his client.
In a phone interview, lawyer Heracleo Malaki III, counsel for Datu Naga Mitra Mangudadatu, said the court is set to accept evidences from the defense next month.
Mangudadatu and his cousin alias Puti, who remains at large, have been charged for raping Victoria (name withheld) on July 31, 2010 inside Mangudadatu's rented room.
Court records showed that the prosecution already presented witnesses, including the victim herself.
In an order dated August 9, Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 16 Judge Emmanuel Carpio ordered the defense to start presenting their evidences on October 16.
The court earlier granted the application for bail filed by the accused and fixed it at P100,000.
However, Mangudadatu have not yet posted bail and is still detained at Davao City Jail. (Arianne Caryl N. Casas)
