AUTHORITIES formally filed complaints against a New People's Army (NPA) leader tagged in a grenade explosion in Paquibato district that wounded 48 civilians.
Records from the City Prosecutor’s Office (CPO) showed that personnel of Paquibato police station filed multiple frustrated murder against Leoncio Pitao, also known as “Kumander Parago.”
In a phone interview, Senior Superintendent Ronald dela Rosa, chief of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), confirmed his office is also preparing for the filing of the same case against Pitao.
Prosecutor Joseph Mamburan will resolve the complaint.
At least 48 people were hurt in a grenade-lobbing incident at the crowded covered court of Barangay Fatima in Paquibato, where a carnival was ongoing on September 1.
The NPA, in a statement, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Rigoberto F. Sanchez, spokesperson for the NPA's Merardo Ace Command, said the NPA's 1st Pulang Bagani Company led by Pitao "made the wrong decision in initiating a tactical offensive against the Armed Forces of the Philippines detachment located in a civilian population."
The Davao City government and the Commission on Human Rights condemned the act. (ANC)
