Drug bureau validates narco-politics reports

TEXT messages have poured in at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Davao region implicating big time politicians in illegal drugs, giving rise to speculations on the existence of narcopolitics.
The complaints come two weeks before the official filing of candidacy for the 2013 elections before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
"May mino-monitor tayo na mga allegedly pinipilit na involved sila, but we need evidence para i-tag talaga sila as narcopoliticians," PDEA regional director Emerson Rosales told Sun.Star Superbalita and dxRA Radyo Arangkada Monday.
Rosales said they have received several complaints against politicians involved in illegal drugs since last month.
"Madami ang nagsusumbong. Usually mga kalaban nila sa politika," Rosales said.
However, the official said they will not believe the reports without sufficient evidence.
"Siyempre, hindi kami nagbibigay ng information na hindi pa na-verify kaya patuloy ang aming validation. At hindi ito matapos ng one month validation lang," Rosales said.
According to the official, narcopolitics is a way for politicians to earn money from drug lords.
"Ang ibang politicians are involved in drugs as source of income para magamit din nila sa campaign," he said. (Alger P. Dura)
