POLICE are still conducting investigation on the suicide of a policeman at the Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office (Doppo) in Mati City.
Superintendent Marcial Magistrado, police regional spokesperson, identified the victim as Police Officer 3 (PO3) Ruel Lino Barredo Ramos, 49, a resident of Rizal Street, Lupon, Davao Oriental.
Magistrado said the Ramos shot himself in front of some workmates around 1:30 p.m. Monday after he talked with his officemates.
Based on the initial investigation of the Doppo, Ramos arrived in the Supply office and discussed his problem with a non-uniform personnel identified as Perla Manuzon Bogoy, provincial supply accountable officer, about his accountability as a former property account officer of the 110th Provincial Police Mobile Group.
PO1 Nonaremie B. Senense of Doppo witnessed the incident when Ramos took his life in front of them in Doppo’s Supply Office. She said the victim was already crying before he discussed his problem to Bogoy.
Magistrado said the victim succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in his head. His cadaver is now at the Patalinghog Funeral Parlor.
Magistrado confirmed that Ramos was a former property accounting officer of the 110th Provincial Police Mobile Group (PPMG), which is now called as Provincial Public Safety Command in Lupon, but he was relieved from his own post on September 12 after several firearms were lost under his watch.
Magistrado said that on September 13, Ramos was assigned at the Police Regional Office’s Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit while their personnel with the Doppo team are conducting investigation on the lost firearms.
"We didn't expect him to commit suicide on his situation in his work. Kasi kung wala ka naman talaga kasalan you are willing to face kung anong problema sa opisina," Magistrado said.
Magistrado added that the investigation on the list of several firearms is still ongoing as conducted by the Doppo personnel. (Ivy C. Tejano)
