Councilor, pal die in car crash

A TOWN councilor in Davao Oriental and a Chinese-Malaysian national died in a car accident at Purok Batasan in Barangay Poblacion, Lupon town, Davao Oriental on Wednesday.
Superintendent Marcial M. Magistrado, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office (PRO), identified the victims as Lupon Councilor Romeo Rada Bote, 43, and his friend Won Kenhung, 53, a businessman from Sabbah, Malaysia.
Initial investigation conducted by the Lupon police and Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office showed the incident happened along the national highway at around 12:20 a.m.
The vehicle owned and driven by the councilor with Kenhung on the passenger seat fell off the bridge.
Police said the vehicle came from Banaybanay going to Lupon.
Both victims were declared dead upon arrival by attending physicians at Lupon District Hospital. They were later brought to St. Peter Funeral Homes in Lupon.
In a television interview over ABS-CBN's morning program Maayong Buntag Mindanao, Lupon Mayor Domingo A. Lim, said he mourned the death of the councilor, which he said is a big loss on their political party.
