Nationwide anti-drugs caravan set

THE National Youth Commission (NYC) will hold a nationwide caravan on Youth Drug Abuse Prevention and Control at the Ateneo de Davao University on Jacinto Street in Davao City on October 9.
Themed "Intensifying Youth Empowerment Efforts to Zero-In on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control", Scheherazaide Pahm, NYC youth program coordinator, said the caravan aims to impart the ill effects of substance abuse and dependence to the partakers.
Pahm said one of the highlights of the event is the launching of "Barkada Kontra Droga-Bagets Edition," which shall ensure that vigilance and awareness is instilled as a sense of responsibility of the participants to combat the proliferation of drug syndicates.
Pahm added that they will also highlight the best practices of youth groups and networks involved in intensified campaigns and initiatives in combating drug dependence.
She said the participants will also be updated on current national youth situation and drug abuse situation in the country and its localities.
Statistical result of the studies and other relevant data on the use of prohibited drugs shall likewise be discussed.
Pahm said participants will also have the opportunity to join in discussions on their role in drug abuse prevention as the session will collectively discuss the cause and effect of prohibited drugs and the role of the youth in combating the ill effects of the substance.
She added that other youth organizations, local government officials, stakeholders, and media practitioners are invited to join the caravan.
