DAVAO DEL SUR -- Six men are thanking high heavens literally for their second lives after they survived a lightning, which hit them in Barangay Coronon, Sta. Cruz Monday night.
The victims were identified as Kokoy Mohammad, 23; Nonito Cayoga, 22; Dan Bautista, 22; Ben Jack Dalios, 14; Allan Enoc, 19; and Joel Cayoga, 34, all residents in the area.
The six were brought to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital.
Cayoga said they decided to harvest shells on the nearby shore after the tide ebbed around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
He said there was a sudden downpour and strong winds so they decided to seek shelter under the coconut trees.
A lightning struck a tree beside where they stood and some of the victims were electrocuted.
Some of the victims fainted and sustained wounds all over the body.
"Nalagpot ko sa akong gibarogan. Mga tulo ka dupa gyud kay pwerteng kusoga sa boto, mura'g bomba (I was thrown three meters away. The explosion was strong like a bomb)," Cayoga said.
He said all of them were thrown in different directions due to the explosion.
However, all victims sustained minor injuries and are now declared out of danger. (Orlando Dinoy)
