Maguindanao massacre victims’ kin visit graves

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- After nearly three years, family members visited anew the grave of the departed loved ones in Forest Lake Memorial Park in this city where 12 of the 34 journalists killed on November 23, 2009 are buried.
The families of Neneng Montano and Leah Balmacio were the last ones who left the cemetery among those who came to visit the graves on November 1.
Families of the victims of the massacre continue to seek for justice.
The 34 journalists were among 58 persons mowed down with bullets when around 100 government soldiers and policemen said to be led by Datu Andal Ampatuan Jr. with the imprimatur of his father, Datu Andal Sr.
The journalists were accompanying the wife and sisters of erstwhile Buluan town mayor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu to file the latter’s certificate of candidacy to challenge the Ampatuans for the gubernatorial seat in the Maguindanao province.
Other family members also visited the site at sitio Masalay in Barangay Salman, Ampatuan town of Maguindanao, which has become the memorial site for the massacre. (Edgardo Fuerzas)
