A TOTAL of 636 families in Davao and neighboring localities were affected by flooding spawned by almost two days of heavy rains, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday.
The NDRRMC said the heavy downpour over a large portion of Mindanao since Monday was caused by the low pressure area (LPA) that was embedded in an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao for days.
NDRRMC executive director Benito Ramos said, in his latest incident report, that among the areas badly affected by the continuous rains include the provinces of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, Sarangani and some parts of General Santos City.
As early as Sunday, heavy rains caused overflowing of major rivers in some parts of Mindanao, forcing the evacuation of affected families.
On Monday, 60 families from two barangays in Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte have been reportedly evacuated due to severe flooding.
Some bridges and main roads have also become impassable due to continued rains, among them the main road connecting Barangay Tibagon, Sitio Diat and Barangay Napnapan in Pantukan.
As of Tuesday, NDRRMC reported that the same LPA has affected a total of seven barangays, one city, two municipalities and three provinces in Regions 11 and 12.
The MDRRMC of Pantukan started its clearing operations since Tuesday morning on the reported damages due to the LPA.
