Truck crushes multicab; 5 dead-A A +A

A SPEEDING softdrinks delivery truck rammed and crumpled a jam-packed multicab, killing five and injuring 15 others, including three who were waiting by the side of the road, around 4 p.m. Wednesday in Los Amigos, Tugbok District.
All five dead and 12 passengers injured were members of a family, among them a one-month-old baby. They were on their way home to Purok 2 in Tamayong, Calinan District from a beach picnic in Toril.
Killed on the spot were the multicab driver Al-Rajeb Tantong Sahadin, his one-month-old daughter Baby Jane Sahadin, and Jovanie Mohamad Motasam.
Declared dead at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) were Zarolan Sahadain, 50, and Norkeyma Sahadain Motasam, 23.
The injured passengers were identified as Dennis Sarte, 36; Bentaud Tantong Sahadain, 14; Aljima Osama Sahadain, 20; Soyla Tantong Sahadain; Soriano Doble Salig, 47; Alcedan Tantong Sahadain, 18; Arnold Sarte Espinoza, 40; Nadoja Abdul Sahadain, 16; Norsheyma Tantong Sahadain, 15; Alhambra Tantong Sahadain, 17; Jausan Abdul Sahadain, 60; and Diane Jane Sahadain Motasam, 3, also of Purok 2 in Barangay Tamayong.
The injured pedestrians were Arnolfo Pacatang, 64, Rogelio Pacatang, 52 and Quinnolan Pacatang, 5, all residents of Phase 3, Tigatto, Buhangin.
Based on the joint investigation by the Tugbok Police Precinct and the Highway Patrol Group, the driver of the Isuzu Forward truck identified as Ernesto Tan Venezuela, 48, salesman of Asia Wide Refreshments Corporation, was speeding along the highway when the taxi ahead slowed down for a passenger.
Venezuela swerved to the other lane after hitting the taxi, straight into the approaching multicab.
The truck dragged the tiny multicab along the road shoulder and hit the three pedestrians.
The driver surrendered to the Mintal Police Precinct.
All the victims who were killed were brought to their house by their relatives.
The first five in the list of injured were brought to the SPMC along with the three pedestrians, while the remaining seven injured members of the Sahadin family were brought to the Davao Adventist Hospital in Bangkal.
