KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A school supervisor in Datu Montawal town in Maguindanao escaped death when a fragmentation grenade exploded inside her residential compound around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, a rescue volunteer said.
Toto Abu, volunteer for the 505 Disaster Rescue Emergencies Assistance and Management (Dream), identified the unscathed teacher as Delia Daniel, a district supervisor in Datu Montawal town.
But two of Daniel's workers suffered minor injuries.
Daniel was in another room when the explosion happened.
Abu said he was one of the volunteers who brought the victims to nearby hospital in Kabacan town for treatment.
Abu, citing police reports, hinted Daniel's attack could be related to her previous work in the past elections.
He was told that Daniel has been receiving death threats since he worked as member of the Board of Election Teller (BET) in 2007 and 2010 elections in Datu Montawal town.
"Police investigations showed that Mrs. Daniel has no known enemies at the DepEd (Department of Education) so authorities were made to believe that her attack has something to do with the previous elections in Maguindanao," Abu said.
Wednesday's grenade attack came a week after the warring clans in Datu Montawal clashed anew in Poblacion, sending hundreds of residents to evacuation sites nearby for their safety.
The armed fighting, reports said, was allegedly connected to a political feud between two known politicians in Datu Montawal town.
